Jason McNulty

PhD Student – Structural Analysis of Ferroelectric Tungsten Bronze Oxides

Jason completed his MChem at the University of St Andrews in 2015, where in his fourth year, he worked under Professor Phil Lightfoot, investigating potential novel piezoelectric materials. In his fifth year he carried out research under the supervision of Professor John Irvine into the synthesis and characterisation of ternary metal oxycarbides.

Jason carried out a Nuffield Science Bursary placement in the group back in 2009 and returned to do a PhD in June 2015. His PhD investigates the structural and physical properties of polar tungsten bronze oxides with a primary focus on Group I  hexagonal tungsten bronzes.

Outside the lab Jason enjoys baking, badminton and reading.
